What is collagen?

Collagen is the most abundant protein in the body. It is responsible for giving your skin, hair, joints, ligaments strength.

Here’s a few ways to boost your collagen,

  1. Skin treatments - Cosmetic beauty treatments such as skin needling and chemical peels are used to cause trauma to your skin so that your body will in turn, naturally produce Collagen to heal itself. Even massaging the skin will activate cells to promote Collagen, think of all the devices out there like Gua Sha’s, Jade Rollers and so on!
  1. Diet - A diet of protein rich food such as fish (yes, with the skin on), chicken, egg whites & bone broth can help the production of collagen. Don’t get me wrong… that doesn’t mean you have to dig into a piece of steak! There are plenty of vegan foods that are high in protein such as Spinach, Kale, Berries, Papaya, Almonds, Pumpkin seeds and more.
  1. Skincare products - Collagen is found deep in the dermis (this is just a fancy word for a particular layer of skin). Collagen is the protein that gives the skin its plump, dewy, firm look. The Mayo Clinic note (yes people, I did my research, you should too!) that the biggest destroyer of Collagen is exposure to UV light. Ultraviolet radiation breaks down the connective tissue and elastin fibres which lie deep in the layer of the skin dermis. So, to point out the obvious… SPF IS YOUR BFF!
  1. Supplements - This is a mine field! As collagen is found in protein, the most common sources that is used in supplements is derived from animal or marine products. However, there are vegan Collagen powders on the market so do your research and I beg you people, look at ingredients! You’ll need to look for vitamins such as Vitamin C, Zinc & Iron as these substances are needed in your system to aid and boost Collagen production!

Like I said, because Collagen is a naturally occurring protein in your body, you need vitamins and minerals to boost its production – that’s where Vitamin C, A, E, Hyaluronic Acid and Aloe Vera come in!

That’s why the first ingredient in all of our skincare products is Aloe Vera, not water.

Our Super Citrus Cleanser is packed with nine different types of Vitamin C, thanks to the Caviar Lime, making it your Collagen boosting BFF.
